2020 Jaime Whelan Foundation Fundraising Update

Dear Friends and Family,
First and foremost, we hope you are all well during this very challenging time. Due to the ongoing uncertainty around Covid-19, we have decided to forgo an in-person JWF fundraiser this year. Each year, we rely so heavily on the hundreds of people in attendance as well as the generosity of small businesses in and around the community for our fundraising. Given both the health concerns associated with large gatherings and the current financial uncertainty facing many businesses and individuals due to Covid-19, we feel that it would be irresponsible to gather in-person in a large indoor setting and to ask for a significant level of commitment from our annual donors during this time.

In an effort to raise money so that we can continue to provide annual scholarships and other financial aid to families in need, we intend to host an online raffle and auction this fall instead. Although we will not be reaching out individually to past donors to ask for donations during this uncertain time, we still welcome any and all donations. If you are interested in contributing something to be used in a raffle or auction package, please let us know by replying to this email or reaching out to us on Instagram or Facebook.
We are excited to raise as much money as we can this year through our online efforts and look forward to returning to our normal fundraiser in the Fall of 2021. Additional information on the online raffle and auction will be released in early September via JWF social media accounts.
Gratefully,
Jim, Sue, James, Alexis, Claire, Gavin, Joe, Christy, Maggie, and Jack Whelan

JWF: Helping support the recovery efforts of Brendan Wagner

We are proud to announce that the Jaime Whelan Foundation is donating $10,000 to support the recovery efforts of Brendan Wagner.

Brendan is a fellow Long Beach Catholic School alum who was involved in a terrible car accident in December 2013, which caused a severe spinal cord injury and stroke resulting in paralysis from the neck down. Brendan is unable to breathe on his own and therefore relies heavily on electricity to power the machines that help him breathe. He is currently in a rehabilitation facility in NYC but his family is doing all they can to get him to his home to continue his recovery. The JWF’s $10,000 donation will be used to equip Brendan’s house with a generator, which will ensure consistent operation of those life-saving machines in all circumstances.

For more information on how you can help Brendan please visit his website at www.brendanwagner.com
